Site description: This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within High Seas International Waters and the Pacific, Southeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 44431 km2 and is 352 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 2714 to 4184 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.63 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 21.25 and 22.64 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.29 and 0.67 mg/m3.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
