Site details
Site description: A freshwater lake with islets surrounded by grazing-meadows, reedbeds and arable land.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: The site was designated as a Special Protection Area in 1983 when it was internationally important for wintering Cygnus cygnus. Latterly data are only available from 1988 when the species was recorded in significantly lower numbers. Botaurus stellaris, Philomachus pugnax and Sterna hirundo, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed in low numbers at the site.
