Site details


Site description: A shallow brackish water arm of the Limfjord, separated from the main fjord by a road embankment and bordered by coastal saltmarshes and agricultural areas.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: The most recent data available for many non-breeding birds date from 1987 and 1988 when more than 20,000 waterbirds occurred at the site. Philomachus pugnax and Recurvirostra avosetta, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, bred at the IBA in 1983.
