Site details
Site description: A shallow fjord area with coastal lagoons and saltmarshes (the latter habitat comprising less than 5% of the area of the IBA) in the western part of Nissum Bredning.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Formerly internationally important for wintering populations of Bucephala clangula, Mergus serrator and M. merganser but these were not recorded in significant numbers in the last midwinter counts in 1991.

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The decrease in bird numbers may be the result of a fall in the birds' food supply of small fish and mussels due to water pollution from agricultural run-off.
