Site details

Site description: A very large heathland with streams, bogs and conifer plantations.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: One of the most important areas for heathland birds in Denmark, holding significant numbers of Tringa glareola and other scarce heathland species. Tetrao tetrix used to breed at the site but went extinct during the 1980s. Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed at the site, including Botaurus stellaris, Pernis apivorus, Circus aeruginosus, C. cyaneus, Pluvialis apricaria, Tringa glareola, Asio flammeus, Alcedo atthis and Lanius collurio.
