Site details

Site description: Freshwater lakes in an area of heathland now largely converted to conifer plantations; some patches of heathland and tiny remnants of natural Quercus forest remain.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Numbers of passage and wintering ducks have declined, probably due to decreasing water quality. Mergus merganser and Anas crecca were recorded in internationally important numbers (meeting current IBA criterion B1i) in 1983.
