Site description: A large, very shallow bay with stone reefs, numerous islands and several inlets along the coast.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The area is of high importance for wintering waterbirds, with tens of thousands of birds regularly wintering at the site, including over 8% of the north-west European population of Cygnus olor.

Threats


Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The IBA encompasses the seawater areas of six Special Protection Areas and four Ramsar Sites. Futhermore, the entire area has been proposed as an offshore Baltic Sea Protected Area.
