Site details


Site description: Flat mostly open area with steppe characters between Dakian plain on east and Carpathian massif on the west. Mala Vrbica has well preserved parts of marshlands as well as abandoned fish pond, loesse hill, flooded parts and Danube flow. Along the borders there is four settlements and all belongs to Kladovo municipality.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: 2014-10-14 (BL Secretariat): following Puzović (2009), site area changed from 2000 ha to 1915 ha; coordinates changed from 44.6N 22.65E to 44°35'40'N 22°39'9'E.
