Site details


Site description: The area is a large, flat, shingle terrace with a thin loess deposit, situated to the north-east of Lake Neusiedl. It is predominantly agricultural with some forestry plantations, interspersed with numerous gravel-pits. Remnants of extensively grazed pastures and the original oak Quercus forests exist.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: An important site for birds associated with arable agriculture. It is one of five areas in Austria for Otis tarda.
