Site details
Site description: This marine & coastal IBA has been described on the basis of data provided by the FAME Interreg program lead between 2010 & 2013, and informations of the SPA database. This site is partly extended in British waters.
Supersedes another site: This site replaces former KBAs 2197 (Archipel des Sept-Iles), 2198 (Ile de Goulmedec) and 2199 (Estuaires du Trieux et du Jaudy).
Delineation rationale: This area includes coastal areas (cliffs, beaches, estuary, islands and a vast off-shore area which is a major foraging area of breeding seabirds, including the "Sept Îles" colony of Gannets. This area has been established mostly on modelling the spatial distribution of individual Gannet locations (GPS) from 2005 to 2012, suggesting a constant area between years.Kernel 50 has been produced by the R script provided by BirdLife secretariat for IBA identification. The area includes also 2 coastal SPAs and 3 IBAs (FR002, FR003 and FR004 with their seaward extensions of breeding colonies of seabirds set in 2007) and a near-shore area of roosting Balearic Shearwater. Thus, IBA criteria met by FR002, FR003 & FR004 are set to this IBA, with additional information concerning Gannet and Shearwater.
