Site details
Site description: Over 60% of this site is occupied by non-intensive vineyards. These are interspersed with arable land, small patches of woodland, dry grassland, hedgerows and orchards. Broadleaved deciduous forest is found on the steeper slopes. Parts of the river course are still in a near-natural state. The main human activity is viticulture.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site holds significant breeding populations of species found in richly structured, open landscapes.
