Site details
Site description: The IBA encompasses part of the Kamp valley and the adjoining plateau. The river course is still unregulated. The slopes are covered by mixed and broadleaved deciduous forest, whilst areas with easier access have largely been replaced by conifer plantations. More open areas are dominated by arable agriculture, within a mosaic of hedgerows, hay-meadows, dry grassland, small wetlands and orchards.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for woodland species.

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: With the exception of areas where forestry is not allowed (in order to protect soil and water resources) intensification of forestry and plantations are a major threat. In arable and grassland areas, intensification and the abandonment of traditional management practices are threats. Planned tourism developments, such as golf courses, provide an additional threat.
