Site details

Site description: The site consists of two parts. The Feuchte Ebene is a semi-open plain, previously with large areas of non-intensive pasture, now largely converted to arable cultivation. There are still substantial areas of humid grassland and small pockets of dry grassland, fens and alluvial forest. The Rauchwarther Platte is an undulating plateau, largely used for arable agriculture. The north of the IBA contains a large Quercus forest.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: An important site for species breeding in humid grasslands and arable land. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Otis tarda (0-2 pairs).
