Site description: Teil des Genfersees mit offener Wasserfläche nahe dem Ausfluss der Rhone bei Genf. Die Ufer sind weitgehend künstlich und mehrere Ortschaften reihen sich aneinander. Die Wassertiefe ist unterschiedlich: im Bereich des Seeendes beträgt sie nur wenige Meter, erreicht aber seewärts Tiefen bis 50 m. Dadurch nutzen verschiedene Wasservogelarten dieses Gebiet als Ruhe- oder Nahrungsgewässer. Der Seegrund ist vorwiegend kiesig oder felsig. Auf französischer Seite des Genfersees grenzt das Ramsar- und IBA-Gebiet FR 170 «Lac Léman» (partie française) direkt an.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: International bedeutender Überwinterungsort für Wasservögel, insbesondere für Haubentaucher, Tafel- und Reiherente. Im Uferbereich und in der näheren Umgebung brüten ungefähr 70 Paare des Gänsesägers, was etwa 15 % des Bestandes der Alpenpopulation entspricht. Das Gebiet bildet mit dem IBA 006 «Rhône: Genève et Barrage de Verbois» und mit dem französischen IBA FR 170 «Lac Léman» (partie française) eine Einheit für im Tagesverlauf kleinräumig umherziehende Entenschwärme.
Delineation rationale: The boundary follows the outer boundaries of the Reserves for Waterbirds and Migrants of International and National Importance 'Mies/Versoix', 'Port Noir bis Hermance', and 'Versoix bis Genf', but the IBA also contains the entire water surface situated between the reserves.
