Site details


Site description: A reservoir connected to the River Danube, with small reedbeds (Phragmites) and patches of forest. The site also includes the lower reaches of the River Riß and the dredged ponds near Rißtissen. A hydroelectric power-station is situated adjacent to the reservoir.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for wintering waterbirds. Breeding birds include Ciconia ciconia.
