Site details


Site description: A large freshwater lake with a range of natural, semi-natural and man-made habitats. There are bays and zones of shallow water, and a rich shoreline vegetation (especially reedbeds (Phragmites) and submerged plants). Swamps, Carex beds, sand-dunes, Juniperus heath and Pinus/Fagus forest surround the lake. Hunting (not of birds) occurs.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
