Site details


Site description: The site contains a range of habitats including Pinus, Quercus and wet forest, heathland, small bogs, standing fresh water and streams. There is an airport and the area is used for military purposes.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: One hundred and seventy species have been recorded with 95 species breeding regularly. This is an important site for species associated with mixed woodland, heathland and open habitats, including Caprimulgus europaeus (up to 4 breeding pairs), Dendrocopos medius (32-35 breeding pairs) and Lullula arborea (up to 46 breeding pairs).
