Site details
Site description: A 12-m-high, vertical loess cliff, located on a major regional road south-west of the town of Tutrakan. The surrounding open lands are covered by steppe-like vegetation of grasslands with some scrub (Crataegus, Rosa, Rubus) and forests of Robinia. Human activities include stock-grazing and loess excavation.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site holds the largest nesting colony of Merops apiaster in Bulgaria.
