Site details

Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified in the CEPF Ecosystem Profile of the Maputaland-Pondoland-Albany Hotspot (2010). Taxonomy, nomenclature and threat status follow the 2008 IUCN Red List. The following species have not yet been globally Red-List-assessed, but have been assessed as threatened at the regional / national scale, hence they trigger the Vulnerability criterion (and also the Irreplaceability 1 criterion, in many cases): CR: Nerine masoniorum / EN: Ocotea bullata / VU: Bowiea volubilis volubilis; Crocosmia masoniorum; Zantedeschia pentlandii.
