Site description: Boundaries identified based on GPS tracking data.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The site is known to be intensively used for foraging by the Cory’s shearwaters from the colonies located in Selvagem (Portugal, Madeira) during the chick-rearing period.
Delineation rationale: The 2009 candidate mIBA / 2010 KBA 'Plataforma continental de Tarfaya' (SitRecID 32039) has been split into two KBAs, Canary Current Shelf 1 (45663) and Canary Current Shelf 2 (45664), as part of the CEPF Ecosystem Profile of the Mediterranean Hotspot (2017). Boundaries identified based on GPS tracking data.
