Site details


Site description: Rocky coastline and cliffs located on the south shore of Scoresby Sund (IBA 043), extending from 22°W to 25°W. Subsistence hunting takes place.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The area is internationally important for Alle alle, which is present in extremely large numbers. Other breeding auks include Uria lomvia (15,000 individuals) and possibly Fratercula arctica. Fulmarus glacialis and Rissa tridactyla also breed.
