Site details


Site description: The area includes the most ornithologically interesting parts of the Calestienne and Famenne, along the River Meuse. A large variety of habitats are present including calcareous dry grasslands and woodlands.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive occurring on passage or in winter include Milvus migrans, Circus cyaneus, Falco peregrinus, F. columbarius, Pandion haliaetus and Pluvialis apricaria.
