Site details

Site description: Cultivated upland plains (cereals and sugar beet) at c.1,100 m in the vicinity of Hosseynabad village, 5–15 km west of Shirvan. Land ownership is public and private. Livestock grazing occurs.

Additional biodiversity: See box for key species. An important staging area for Otis tarda in November-December. Flocks of 64 (1972) and 53 (1974) have been observed by Department of the Environment personnel, and flocks of over 100 are reported by local farmers. A few birds remain into January, by which time the plains are usually under snow. Falco pelegrinoides is an occasional visitor, and Sturnus roseus is a common passage migrant. Non-bird biodiversity: None known to BirdLife International.
