Site details

Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Important for Odonata.
Delineation rationale: 2008-12-11 (BL Secretariat): The site area (10,000 ha) is much larger than the 'Hamadiro & Homhil' SSSI polygon (provided to BirdLife by RBGE in 2000), therefore the boundaries of that polygon have been extended (mainly eastwards along the scarp, as far east as the 'Ra's Momi and Fikhah' IBA polygon) to cover the 'RBGE Reserve' polygon in this area (incorporating RBGE polygons of Hoq SSSI and Reqadihon SSSI), which results in an approximately correct area.
