Site details
Site description: An extensive lake and wetland complex situated along the River Dalälven. Much of the area floods regularly and comprises freshwater marsh and peatbogs. The surrounding forests of both coniferous and deciduous species are largely old and undisturbed. Commercial forestry is, however, carried out in some areas.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The IBA supports a diversity of breeding species of wetland and forest habitats.
