Site details

Site description: A shallow bay in the straits of öresund, situated 20-30 km to the north of a new bridge linking Sweden and Denmark. The beaches are of sand and clay; grazed meadows are also present.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: This is important as a stop-over site for passage wildfowl and waders, as well as for wintering wildfowl (for example, Anas penelope, Aythya fuligula and Bucephala clangula).
Delineation rationale: Old area: 20000ha (typo error?) Changed due to better information on borders and size. /Robert Ekblom (2007-10-24)
