Site details

Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: 2002: the IBAs IT182 (Oristano wetlands) and IT184 (Cape San Marco) were merged to form IT205 (Oristano wetlands), as part of the European Ramsar Shadow List (2001), but this change was first properly documented in Brunner et al (2002), where the site code was changed to IT218 and site name to 'Sinis and Oristano wetlands'. Land area changed from 22595 ha to 22874 ha and a marine area of 34346 ha was added (Brunner, Celada, Rossi & Gustin, 2002).
