Site description: The KBA Abra Patricia - Hierba Buena covers an area of 663.118 sq km and it's located mainly within the province of Bongará, department of Amazonas and a little portion within the province of Rioja, department of San Martín. This KBA replace part of the Abra Patricia - Altomayo KBA. The altitude range of the KBA Abra Patricia - Hierba Buena is 1450-3400 masl. The weather is temperate, rainy with abundant humidity all year round. The maximum temperature ranges from 25°C to 29°C, while the minimum temperature from 25°C to 29°C. The annual precipitation varies between 1200 mm and 3000 mm. It includes the following ecosystems: Bosque basimontano de Yunga (1%), Bosque montano de Yunga (61%), Bosque altimontano de Yunga (28%), Grasslands (4%), Secondary Vegetation (4%) and Jalca (ca. 2%), according to the Ministerio del Ambiente del Perú.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: The KBA Abra Patricia - Hierba Buena qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for A1, B1 and B2 criteria described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBA. The KBA Abra Patricia - Hierba Buena harbors a critically Endangered orchid (Phragmipedium kovachii), a threatened herbaceous plant (Xanthosoma tarapotense), two endemic and geographically restricted arthropods, these are a moth Opharus omissioides and a harvestman Callcosma abrapatricia, two threatened primates (Aotus miconax and Lagothrix flavicauda), one Endangered toad (Atelopus seminiferus), two range restricted frogs (Pristimantis infraguttatus and Pristimantis muscosus) and six range restricted bird species (Pheugopedius sclateri, Xenoglaux loweryi, Heliangelus regalis, Grallaria carrikeri, Grallaria przewalskii y Dysithamnus occidentalis).
Additional biodiversity: Ateles belzebuth, Neacomys spinosus, Nephelomys albigularis , Akodon orophilus , Sturnira erythromos , Oligoryzomys destructor, Microryzomys minutus, Thomasomys ischyrus, Anoura geoffroyi, Desmodus rotundus, Marmosops neblina, Marmosops noctivagus. Many birds are observed on the site: Xenoglaux loweryi (VU), Sericossypha albocristata (VU), Grallaria przewalskii (VU), Heliangelus regalis, Grallaria carrikeri, Urosticte ruficrissa, Urochroa leucura, Cnemoscopus chrysogaster the range restricted and Sericossypha albocristata, Zimmerius viridiflavus.
Manageability of the site: This KBA contains protected natural areas as well as areas without any type of protection. Therefore, it could be managed jointly by the Servicio Nacional de Áreas Protegidas por el Estado Peruano (SERNANP), el Servicio Nacional Forestal y de Fauna Silvestre (SERFOR) and the regional government of Amazonas.

Delineation rationale: This KBA was delimited based on KBA's previous proposal ''Abra Patricia - Altomayo'' but bordered on the east by the Alto Mayo Protected Forest, on the west borders the Colan Mountain range and on the north by the KBA Río Nieva and along the edge of the KBA Abra Pardo Miguel to the South. To the east it follows the limit of the previous KBA Abra Patricia - Alto Mayo modified following the relief of the terrain.
