Site details
Site description: Cañadas profundas de la vertiente pacífica de la Sierra Madre del Sur, que contienen una variedad de hábitats áridos y húmedos. Localizada al sur de Chilpancingo en el estado de Guerrero. Comprende una superficie de 66,580 ha y la altitud varía entre 200 y 3,000 msnm.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site includes 24 legacy bird trigger species. It also holds the only known populations of one mammal (Sylvilagus insonus), two amphibians (Craugastor guerreroensis and Lithobates omiltemanus), and three tree species (Aiouea kruseana, Desmopsis guerrerensis, and Triumfetta acahuizotlanensis), which trigger the A1e criteria.
Additional biodiversity: La diversidad de hábitats provee un mosaico de especies de zonas semi-áridas y húmedas, altas y bajas. La mayor concentración de especies de vencejos con abundancias altas. El total de especies de aves registradas es de 239 (Navarro, et al. en prep.), de las cuales algunas son endémicas como: Nyctiphrynus mcleodii, Streptoprocne semicollaris, Piculus auricularis, Dendrocolaptes certhia shefferi, Aulacorhynchus wagleri, Amazilia viridifrons, Eupherusa poliocerca, Lepidocolaptes leucogaster, Deltarhynchus flammulatus, Rhodinocichla rosea, Piranga erythrocephala, Pipilo ocai guerrerensis y Vireo nelsoni. Es G-1 por la presencia de Eupherusa poliocerca, Vireo atricapillus, Amazona oratrix y Vireo nelsoni.

Delineation rationale: 2005: the area of the 2000 IBA has been expanded from 66,580 ha to include the 2005 AZE sites for Craugastor guerreroensis ('Agua del Obispo') and for Sylvilagus insonus (so-called 'Sierra Madre del Sur'). 2010: the boundary of the 2005 AZE has been expanded to include further AZE species, now covering 167,073 ha in GIS (reported area rounded to the nearest 10%, to 170,000 ha).
