Delineation rationale: The KBA was delineated to encompass the topographic and ecological characteristics of the triggering aquatic species, which include small affluent of rivers in deforested areas and near houses where there is evidence of the presence of the triggering species by local experts consulted through of a consultation workshop. The boundaries of the KBA include the Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve Protected Natural Area and 37% of its buffer zone to the west and est. To the northwest it limits with the Alto Nanay - Pintuyacu Chambira Regional Conservation Area, following the Nanay River basin and the Pintayacu River to the district of Iquitos, where the city of Iquitos and its surroundings are excluded. To the east and southeast it follows the limits of the Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve Protected Natural Area, including its buffer zone. The southwest limits follow the margin of Río Tigre to the limit with the province of Maynas.
