Rationale for qualifying as KBA: The KBA Tingana qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for A1, B1 and B2 criteria described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. The KBA Tingana harbors the Vulnerable plant species Kielmeyera peruviana, the Critically Endangered primate Plecturocebus oenanthe and two range restricted bird species, Machaeropterus eckelberryi and Zimmerius villarejoi.
Additional biodiversity: Xanthosoma tarapotense, Hylaeamys perenensis, Carollia perspicilliata, Carollia perspicillata, Uroderma bilobatum, Artibeus lituratus, Enchisthenes hartii, Rhinophylla pumilio, Artibeus obscurus, Ara militaris, Campylopterus villaviscensio, Touit stictipterus, Setophaga cerulea, Agamia agami, Zimmerius viridiflavus, Ramphocelus melanogaster, Platalea ajaja, Asio stygius, Iodopleura isabellae, Tachyphonus phoenicius, Bartramia longicauda, Conopias cinchoneti, Myiophobus phoenicomitra
Manageability of the site: Since this KBA enclosures the ''Tingana'' and ''Chullachaqui Santa Elena'' Fragile Ecosystems, part of the Conservation Concession of the Yanayacu and Yarau Forest Conservation Association and part of the Reggionally Prioritized Area ''Angaiza Forests'', the KBA Tingana can be managed by the National Forest and Wildlife Service - SERFOR. This KBA also includes the "Morro de Calzada" Conservation and Ecosystem Recovery Zone (ZOCRE) in which the Municipality of Calzada is responsible for its maintenance and conservation. The National Coordination Group of KBAs has a conservation promotion and monitoring committee, which is composed of various governmental and civil society institutions that will work to promote conservation actions in the KBAs. Awareness campaigns could be conducted for owners of agricultural fields, along with providing alternative sustainable production methods such as agroforestry.

Delineation rationale: The Tingana KBA is delineated to encompass the ecological characteristics and local conservation initiatives of the trigger species. To the southwest, it borders the Rioja district, extending northwest while excluding the Yuracyacu locality and agricultural areas, crossing the Mayo River. To the northeast, it excludes the localities and agricultural zones of Valle de La Conquista, Pueblo Libre, and Los Angeles, following the SM-113 dirt road. To the northeast, it includes the Malvinas Population Center up to the departmental boundary between Loreto and San Martín. To the east, it includes the concessions of the Yanayacu Yarau Forest Conservation Association and the Kechwas Indigenous Peoples Federation, excluding the Cordillera Andina locality. To the southeast, it follows the provincial boundary of Moyobamba to the Mayo River. To the south, it excludes the city of Moyobamba, following the Mayo River delimitation while excluding the Yantalo, Calzada, and Pajonal localities and agricultural areas. It includes the Aguajales and Renacales de Alto Mayo conservation concessions.
The areas most affected by agriculture were removed from the polygon. Trigger birds could be found in the patches of forest between the cultivated fields and may move between these patches, so we consider that the species continues to use the area.
