Site details


Site description: This site corresponds to the "Área de Conservacion Hidrica Municipal Entre Rios" which is a Municipal Protected Area focused on the conservation of forest cover, natural vegetation, wild animals and the hydrological network through the management, comprehensive management and sustainable use of natural resources, being fundamental the protection of the water sources and their water recharge areas, as the main source of water supply for consumption and production of local communities of peasant origin and the populated center of Entre Ríos. This site has an area of 160,188 hectares. Given its altitudinal range, between 500 and 3000 m.a.s.l., this site comprises a transition between three ecoregions: the Bolivian Tucuman Bolivian forest, the Interandean Dry Forests, and the Chaco Serrano. Vegetation is mainly composed of evergreen to deciduous forests in the midd-upper slopes, to dry-deciduous in the chacoan lowlands. Temperatures can reach up to 30 °C, with seasonal low temperatures up to 5 °C. Precipitations concentrate between december and march, reaaching a maximum of 3000 mm.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. Trigger species qualifies under the KBA Criteria A1b. Este sitio califica como un Área Clave para la Biodiversidad de importancia internacional que cumple los umbrales de al menos uno de los criterios descritos en el Estándar Global para la Identificación de KBAs. La especie detonante califica bajo el crietrio A1b.
