Site details


Site description: The Río-Presidio-Pueblo Nuevo area is located in the state of Durango The altitude varies from 1,200 to 3,000 meters above sea level. The Moist Oak-Pine Forests are closely related to Patches of Mountain Cloud Forest; In addition, in some ravines there are small Forests of Firs and Ayarín (Pseudotsuga). In the deepest and sunniest ravines, deciduous and semi-deciduous forests develop. Threats include inadequate exploitation of resources, agriculture (clearing without regeneration), deforestation (massive due to negligence of forest exploiters), cattle ranching (without management plans).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site was formerly an AZE for Eleutherodactylus saxatilis which has been downlisted to Near Threatened and now qualifies under restricted range criteria. Seventeen bird species meets legacy KBA criteria and are in need of reassessment.
Manageability of the site: Site was identified as an IBA/KBA in 2000 by BirdLife partners and confirmed as an AZE during the 2015-2018 AZE project. A manageability rationale is not available.
