Site details


Site description: IBA is located in the southeastern part of Bačka District (Vojvodina Province) downstream from regional centre Novi Sad. It is situated along both, left and right banks of alluvial plain of Danube between 1219 and 1250 river km. This area consists from five topographic units: Koviljski rit, Petrovaradinski rit, Krčedinska ada, Ločka ada i Velika ada. Along the borders of IBA six settlements are situated.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Delineation rationale: 2014-10-14 (BL Secretariat): following Puzović (2009), site area changed from 5500 ha to 9594 ha; coordinates changed from 45.2N 20E to 45°10'40'N 20°4'10'E.
