Site details
Site description: This site includes the north and east part of Kalimnos and islets from Telendos to Kalolimnos and Limnia. Kalimnos is heavily grazed and rocky.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: An important site for breeding raptors and species associated with cliffs and scrub. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (non-breeding).
Delineation rationale: 2012-12-17 (BL Secretariat): site area updated from 4700 ha to 23387 ha after addition of seaward extension to the site in October 2012 for the Marine eAtlas.

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The main threats are hunting, overgrazing and tourist developments. A management plan was produced as a result of a LIFE project. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
