Site details

Site description: A hilly area in the far south-east of Banat, on the boundary between the Pannonian lowlands and the Carpathian massif. Extensive plains comprising steppic habitats, agricultural land and vineyards surround forests of oak Quercus, beech Fagus, hornbeam Carpinus, lime Tilia, ash Fraxinus and maple Acer.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site is important for forest-nesting species. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aquila heliaca (non-breeding) and Crex crex (breeding).
Delineation rationale: 2014-10-14 (BL Secretariat): following Puzović (2009), site area changed from 10500 ha to 12069 ha; coordinates changed from 45.117N 21.417E to 45°6'57'N 21°25'16'E.
