Site details


Site description: Tree islands in the south-western part of Ladoga lake. Belt of frindge vegetation are exist along the shores.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Also waterfowl's gathering are up to 40000-50000 individuals (mostly ducks which are passing via this site at moulting places). The highest in the Leningrad region breeding density of Aythya fuligula, Anas penelope, Sterna hirunda.
Delineation rationale: 2009-08-19 (BL Secretariat): IBA area changed from 1025 ha to 525 ha (following RBCU spreadsheet of changes that need making). 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 59°59'56'N 31°22'2'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 525 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
