Site details


Site description: An area of peatland and pools located in the south-eastern corner of Drenthe province near to the German border, which includes one of the last remaining raised bogs in the Netherlands. The majority of the site has been cut for peat but some parts remain intact.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Delineation rationale: 3 March 2017: area edited. Now equal to the designated Special Protection Area (Birds Directive).
