Site details


Site description: An expanse of wet grassland overlying a clay polder to the south of the city of Rotterdam.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site is well known for its wintering geese Anser and breeding waders. Geese from this feeding area roost in the Haringvliet (024).
Delineation rationale: 9 March 2017: area edited. Now equal to the designated Special Protection Area (Birds Directive).
