Site details
Site description: The area is located along the western Cordillera of the Colombian Andes, spanning both the Pacific and Andean regions, giving it medium-high bioclimatic biodiversity (Metzger et al., 2013). The area is partially protected and includes warm, humid forests of the Pacific slope, Andean forests, and páramos. Human productive activities such as coffee production, hydroelectric dams—such as the Calima reservoir—and more can be observed around the site.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. This site holds a variety of species that meet KBA criteria: three species of bird, Coeligena orina (B2 criteria), Iridosornis porphyrocephalus (B2 criteria) and Diglossa gloriosissima (B2 criteria; two species of reptilia, Anolis antioquiae (B1, B2 criteria) and Atractus nicefori (A1b, B1, B2 criteria); five species of Ericales, Cavendishia jardinensis (A1a, B2 criteria), Cavendishia nuda (A1a, B2 criteria), Gauitheria oreogena (B1,B2 criteria), Geissanthus callejasii (A1e criteria) and Themistoclesia rostrata (A1b, B1, B2 criteria); Blakea argentea (A1b, B1) and two species of Magnolia, Magnolia jardinensis (A1a, A1e, B2) and Magnolia hernandezii (A1a, A1c, B2).

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The site faces threats related mainly to the loss of forest cover, a growing problem in the department of Antioquia, Colombia. Agribusiness and extensive livestock farming contribute to this threat.
| Threat level 1 | Threat level 2 | Threat level 3 | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Residential & commercial development | Tourism & recreation areas | Ongoing | |
| Agriculture & aquaculture | Livestock farming & ranching | Scale Unknown/Unrecorded | Ongoing |
