Site details

Site description: Kahokugata used to be a shallow lake of brackish water with the depth of 1-2 m, and paddy fields surrounding the lake used to be wet paddies. Currently, it has been transformed into 1,400 ha reclaimed land and fresh water lake of 800 ha. Around the area there are paddy fields well equipped with drainage ditches. The reclaimed land is used as pastures, farmlands, paddy fields, and for Nelumbo nucifera cultivation. In the fallow land of the area, there are clumps of Phragmites australis and others. From Takamatsu area of Kahoku City to Uchinada Town a string of dunes is seen over the distance of 16 km.
