Site details


Site description: Xingkai Hu Nature Reserve includes the northern part of Xingkai Hu (known as Lake Khanka in Russia), where the ratio of open water to wetlands is 5:1. The coniferous and broadleaf mixed forests by the lake shores are utilized by forest birds.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: The core area is the natural range of Nycterentes pyocyonoides and Ondatra zibethicus. Nationally protected plants include Pinus takahasii.
