Site details
Site description: Located in Dong Ujimqin Qi of Xilin Gol League, 200 km from Xilinhot and 30 km from the town of Uliastai, on the eastern edge of the Inner Mongolia Plateau. The typical habitat is grassland, where Otis tarda breeds. Ulgai marshes are located along the Ulgai River in the eastern and southern sections of the grassland, and include riverine marshes, lakes and reservoirs.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
