Site details


Site description: Located in the southern part of the Hengduan Shan mountains, with the Yunnan border to the south. The IBA has a canyon landscape, with arid montane deciduous scrub below 3,400 m, montane coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest at 3,400-3,800 m, coniferous forest at 3,800-4,600 m, and alpine scrub and grassland above 4,600 m.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Rhinopithecus bieti (around 700 individuals found within the reserve, 70% of the world population), Selenarctos thibetanus, Ursus arctos, Ailurus fulgens, Capricornis sumatraensis and Naemorhedus cranbrooki.
