Site details


Site description: Located in central Gansu near the capital city of Lanzhou. The Yellow River flows through the centre of the IBA, which has a typical Loess Plateau landscape of river gullies and eroded mountains. Liujiaxia Reservoir was constructed inside the IBA, and much of the area is agricultural land.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
