Site details


Site description: Located at the south-east edge of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, in the north-eastern part of the Hengduan Shan mountains. The highest peak in the IBA is 7,556 m, and it is surrounded by mountains above 6,000 m. The mountains are covered by snow all year round, with well-developed glaciers. The vegetation cover shows prominent vertical zonation.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Picea brachytyla and Euptelea pleiospermum. Nationally protected animals include Ailurpoda melanolenca, Pygathrix roxellanae, Panthera pardus, Cervus albirostris, Macaca mulatta, Ailurus fulgens, Felis lynx, Felis temmincki, Moschus berezovskii, Pseudois nayaur, Ovis ammon, Cervus unicolor and Naemorhedus goral.
