Site details


Site description: At the Huang He (Yellow River) estuary, massive volumes of sediment brought down by the river have settled and formed the largest river delta in China and the youngest coast wetland in eastern China. This sedimentary area is a flat plain. Vegetation cover is c.53.7% inside the nature reserve, and the IBA includes the largest area of coastal vegetation in China.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
