Site details


Site description: Gaoyou Hu is located 40 km north of Yangzhou City and west of Gaoyou City. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal lies to the east of the lake. Gaoyu Hu lake receives water from several rivers and flows into Shaobo Hu. The shallow area of the lake is dominated by reeds, and there are extensive agricultural lands in the adjacent areas.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
