Site details
Site description: Guniujiang is located on the border of Qimen and Shitai counties, in southern Anhui. The ridges in the IBA are the western extensions of the Huang Shan ranges, and are the major mountains in southern Anhui. Forest cover is 78%, with comprehensive representation of natural subtropical vegetation types.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Emmenopterys henryi, Liriodendron chinense and Ginkgo biloba. Animals include Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Cervus nippon, Viverricula indica, Viverra zibetha and Manis pentadactyla.
