Site details
Site description: The forests at Nankun Shan are more than 400 years old, and are broadleaf evergreen forest. The habitats in the IBA include primary forest, bamboo plantation, pine forest, agricultural land, scrub, grassland, reservoir and streams. Comprehensive surveys have been initiated in recent years.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Neofelis nebulosa, and there were historical records of Panthera tigris amoyensis and Panthera pardus. Important plants include Fokienia hodginsii, Tsoongiodendron odorum, Bretschneidera sinensis, Aquilaria sinensis and Halesia macgregorii.
